PUBLIC servants have been warned to register themselves in the national identification project before the end of the year.
Outgoing Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore said the process was needed to address the annual K400 million budget blowout.
If all public servants are registered, it will be easier to eliminate those whose names should be on the government payroll.
The NID registration is among the key measures to reduce costs.
There will also be the amalgamation of some Government agencies after it was discovered that 17 were carrying out the same roles.
During his term, some reforms were carried out including the downsizing of the public service.
Six state agencies abolished and amalgamated with others are the Department of Public Enterprises, Office of Urbanisation, Border Development Authority, Coastal Fisheries and Development Agency, Office of Tourism Arts and Culture, and the Cocoa and Coconut Research Institute.
He said there 11 other departments and agencies also needed to go through the same process.
Kapavore said the department had also removed the domestic market allowance to save costs.
