FORMER Maprik MP and Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Gabriel Kapris says the Pacific Maritime Industrial Zone (PMIZ) is going to generate more revenue than PNG LNG project.

Kapris told The National that he was not happy with the opposition to the project by from knew the benefits this project was

going to bring to Madang and Papua New Guinea.

“PMIZ is a very important project so Fairweather must clarify the on basis of branding the project as a con deal,” he said. Kapris said the PMIZ project was not the only type of project that was being proposed in PNG. The model that PMIZ was using had been adopted from Europe and Asia.

“And the important thing Fairweather and his cohorts should understand is that this project is going to make Papua New Guinea the number one tuna  exporter in the world and the benefits are much bigger than LNG,”  he said

Kapris saidthe  PMIZ project was going to create well over 50,000 job with a minimal cost.

He said Faiweather was depriving privilege of his own people of Madang and Sukmkar from benefits of this project.

Kapris said the environmental damage on which Fairweather based his argument to oppose the project is not true.

“It is a food industry where almost 80 per cent of the fish are food and the waste was just the tail and the head and maybe intestines.

“As usual in any industry there will be waste management systems in place for waste disposal,” he said.
