Kase: Support immunisation programme

National

Health Secretary Pascoe Kase has called on provinces and districts to support the national immunisation programme to have children covered throughout the country.
Kase, yesterday, told heads of departments, governors and provincial administrators that immunisation coverage had been lacking, resulting in outbreaks like polio recently.
He said 2019 was the “year of immunisation”.
“Our health workers are not taking the immunisation programmes out to the districts and communities,” Kase said. “The protection of our children against such sicknesses was not happening. That’s why we have had such cases (polio).”
He commended the government for declaring a public health emergency with funding.
Kase said with the help of development partners, the department was able to reach the 26 cases of polio and since then there had not been any more cases.
He said 3.2 million children were immunised during that period.
Health Minister Sir Puka Temu last week announced the fourth and final immunisation round.
He said the government had funded K9 million, together with development partners Australian and New Zealand.
