The Ombudsman Commission says it is conducting its own investigations into the ongoing saga at the University of Papua New Guinea.
“Where persons subject to the Leadership Code have not conducted themselves appropriately in the discharge of their duties, they will be investigated and subjected to the usual inquiry that the Ombudsman Commission does in relation to leaders,” Chief Ombudsman Michael Dick said in a statement.
Dick said the commission would continue its efforts to lift the overall standard of leadership and governance in the country, as well as public administration of State-owned institutions, including universities.
“Leaders must remain conscious at all times of their special and profound obligations to the people they are required to selflessly serve,” he said.
Dick said the commission was required to guard, enforce and promote good governance, good leadership, and good ethical standards in PNG.
“The commission encourages any person with relevant information and or documents to come forward and assist its investigations,” he said.
This call by the commission came amidst allegations of corrupt lecturers, misappropriation of funds and sex scandals at the university.
Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari told UPNG staff on Wednesday that he would lead an independent investigation into the affairs on campus.
