PREMIERSHIP winner and Tarangau skipper Bravo Kaspa has been named as the Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) player of the year.
The lock won the award ahead of Kone Tigers rake Dobi Michael.
“I was not expecting the award,” Kaspa said.
“But I’d like to thank the POMRFL board and Tarangau for the award.”
Former Papua New Guinea Orchids utility back Joanne Kuman claimed the women’s award after helping runners-up Souths reach the grand final against champions Paga Panthers.
In the Under-20 division, Kone Storm hooker Ben Feke — also a regular in the club’s A-Grade team — bagged the award for the third time.
Despite the Covid-19 distractions, Kaspa led a host of youngsters to a 22-18 win over Butterflies in the grand final at the Oil Search National Football Stadium over the weekend. “Most of my men are U20 players who have been consistent all season,” he said.
POMRFL chairman Dr James Naipao congratulated the award winners for their efforts all season.
He said the season was a success although the Covid-19 pandemic had made it difficult for POMRFL to run its competition.
Naipao thanked sponsors South Pacific Brewery, City Pharmacy Ltd Group, Borneo Pacific Pharmaceuticals and Oil Search for their support.
