GENESIS skipper Yvonne Gabong says she is impressed with the performances of her teammates who have been committed to training since the lead-up to the Women’s National Soccer League.
“If you watched us training for the first time, you wouldn’t believe that we’ve come this far to sit on top of the (Southern Conference) ladder,” the Papua New Guinea international said.
“The girls have been very committed to training which has seen us win all our matches since the start of the season.” 24-year-old said.
The PNG international said her players were keen on improving despite their perfect start.
“My aim is to help them develop their skills,” Gabong said.
“They have their own goals in soccer, so I’ll just continue to help them in the areas that need improving.
“Our coach (Percy Mataio) saw that these women had potential which is why he picked them for the squad.”
Meanwhile, Mataio said his players would continue to work on their support structures to create more scoring opportunities for Gabong and their forwards.
“We want to make sure that she has plenty of support and options in attack,” he said.
“When we have plenty of support in attack, we won’t rely too much on Gabong to do the job for all of us.
“We’re trying to make sure that it’s a team game and that everybody around her should work together to achieve our goals in the league.”
Genesis have the best defence and second-best attack after three rounds in their conference.
