Kaugere manage scrappy win against Mozzies

THE Kaugere Bulldogs out-muscled the Vabukori Mosquitoes to clinch a 10-0 win in the Moresby South Rugby League round six A grade fixture at the Moresby South Stadium on Saturday.
The Bulldogs pack worked over their smaller less experienced opponents to lay a foundation for the Kaugere man to score a couple of tries.
The Mozzies would have learned from the experience and will need to stop teams from implementing the same game plan against them.
The Mozzies themselves did not help their cause with poor options and an unstructured style which saw errors and frustration build up.
Referee Sukai Raphael sent Bulldogs Isaac Yanis to the bin for 10 minutes and others were warned of dangerous tackles but not put on report. Bulldogs lock Maya Clark sliced through the opposition defence to score a converted try for a 6-0 lead by the 10th minute.
But the rest of the opening half was mired in mistakes from both sides as neither team looked composed or focused on the job at hand.
Jerry Kepas broke the Mozzies’ line early in the second half for the Bulldogs to edge further ahead for a 10-0 lead which never looked threatened.
In the other matches, Taurama Wolfpack denied Joyce Bay Roosters 16-10 to end their winning streak.
Koki eels stopped Southern Sons 10- 4 in the main fixture.
Competition leaders Gabutu Dragons continued their winning run with forfeit win over Kipo Eastern Pride who failed to show up.
Eastern Pride’s failure to participate has landed them with a fine before round seven on July 15 when competition resumes after the General Elections.
