DURING the recent presentation of awards for the Kauka competition, it was revealed that its association would host to the Champion of Champions national dart tournament next year.
Association president Goasa Geita said Kauka won the bid at Manus and would now host the tournament at Varahe in Kirakira, National Capital District.
“Kauka is a village association and so we will be making history when we host the championship in June,” he said.
“When we first introduced ourselves at Manus, everyone was asking where Kauka was and now, this will definitely put us on the map.
“As Kauka is the host, we are eligible to provide four teams where as other associations are only allowed two.”
Geita, who has been involved in the sport for more than two decades, said they finished in sixth place in Manus and with the June tournament just around the corner, all teams would have to step up their game.
“We will be challenging the best teams from Port Moresby, Manus, Kavieng, Lae and Tabubil,” he said.
“But we will take break until February and from then on, we will start preparing for June.”
Papua New Guinea Dart Federation president John Kuaru encouraged Kirakira to take ownership of the event.
“Just like the national championships in Manus this year, Kirakira must cooperate as host,” he said.
“I urge the community and members of the association to start preparing now. So come June, all will be ready and organised.
“Do it the Papuan way, the Motu-Koitabu way.”
