The funding that was allocated through the district social sector programme and managed by the Moresby North East special events committee saw K150,000 given to team coordinators of the four wards in the North East electorate.
Kaupa in distributing the prizes to the teams last Saturday said that it was part of his planning to each ward celebrated the festive season by engaging in physical activity that would promote healthy life style and peace.
“Accessing government funding to spend on social events is not easy, since our DSIP funding comes with its strict expenditure regulation to be appropriated as per required by the Finance Management Act,” Kaupa said.
“As a responsible government it is our duty to ensure our people in each electorate receive the much needed services such as education, health, infrastructure including social events such as sports to promote unity, peace and healthy lifestyles,” Kaupa said
“In 2019 we will allocated more funding through various sports initiate through the Moresby Northeast committee including volleyball and rugby league.”
Volleyball coordinator for Moresby North East Jeffery Bare said the purpose of the game was not to create rival competition among teams but rather promote peace and good will through sports in the district.
“I thank Moresby North East MP and Minister for Housing and Urbanisation John Kaupa for capturing social events such as sports in his five year development plan,” Bare said.
“I thank all the teams who participated. We have a bigger and better competition this year.”
