SOUTHERN Flames’ Elina Yala, Lydia Gutuno and McDallyn Unagi helped their side lead beat the Elegant Spiders 20-10 in the National Capital District (NCD) Basketball Association women’s division at Hohola on Saturday.
The trio were in fine form compared with Spiders and national representatives Mary Elavo and Betty Angula, who were under tremendous pressure and were not at their usual best.
The Flames lead 8-4 at the interval and surged on in the final half to collect another 12 points to their opponents six to clinch the game.
Rookies Birdwing, who started the competition late, need a lot of catching up to do with two matches remaining before the end of round one, NCD Basketball Association president Kevin Teme said.
Teme said the points ladder would be announced after the end of round one.
“We have two rounds for the 2018-2019 season,” said Teme, who is also the Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League vice-president.
