Housing Minister John Kaupa has lauded the government’s ongoing funding of the tuition fee-free policy that is impacting students and saving parents money.
The Moresby North East MP was responding to last year’s and this year’s TFF summary payment report on schools in the National Capital District by Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra.
“Last year the Education Department paid a total of K23,887,123.71 to all our schools in NCD. This is a huge investment to the future of our students and I must commend the national Government for its investment in education in Moresby North East and the National Capital District,” Kaupa said.
“This year’s total for NCD, according to the Education Department, for the first quarter – for 94,693 students in 96 schools – was K4,675,792.94.”
Kaupa said despite the economic situation that has forced everyone to dig deep into their pockets, the prime minister has relieved many parents “by continuously supporting free education for all students”.
He said funds received by schools late and the increasing number of student enrolment were all manageable.
Administrative issues in each school could be sorted out with their respective inspectors and all should appreciate the Government’s investment of billions on kina on education.
“Education and health have always been a top priority for this government and that is evident in the increasing number of students enrolment figures in schools and increasing number of patients receiving treatments in our clinics and health centres.”
