POLICE have warned motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition at all times, especially during the rainy season.
National Capital District traffic operations director Joe Joseph told The National yesterday that drivers should ensure that everything in the vehicle is functioning.
“Wipers, signal lights, horns and breaks must function because they will come in handy during bad weather,” he said.
“Driving in the rain is totally different from when it is fine.
“Observation and concentration must be at their peak due to the wet road surface.
“Visibility can be impaired by the rain.”
Joseph said some drivers would get complacent after using the same road all the time.
“The road conditions may have changed,” he said.
“Therefore drivers must take extra care.
“If there are pools of water on the road, drivers should not splash them on pedestrians.
“Drive slowly.”
Joseph also warned drivers using plastic sheets to cover windscreens to get their vehicles fixed because they pose a danger to other road-users.
He said motorists using the Highlands Highways should be aware of landslides.
National Weather Service director Samuel Maiha said it was now the rainy season with more changes in weather patterns to be expected in the next four months.
