Kickboxing championship moved to next year

THE 27th National Kickboxing Championship has been deferred to Feb 27-28 next year according to a statement from the PNG Kickboxing Federation president Stanley Nandex.
The championship was supposed to be hosted in Kimbe on Nov 28-29, however, due to the current political turmoil, the host organising committee and national body agreed to defer it.
Nandex said this was an unfortunate situation where the province’s leaders were in no better position to welcome participants from other centres and sponsors of the championship.
“It’s such a tough decision to make after all the preparations were made,” he said.
“Last year and this year has been a tough year for the federation including the provincial associations and its affiliated members due to the global pandemic and other financial circumstances.”
The championship had also attracted sponsors like SP Brewery who partnered in raising awareness on domestic violence against women and girls related to the consumption of alcohol.
Nandex said this was a good initiative for the sporting organisation to be leaders in using this platform to ensure the awareness reached people from all walks of life.
“The federation has appointed male and female international kickboxing champions, Jessy Gonopa and Jeffery Daka as their ambassadors to take the lead in the partnership with SP Brewery,” Nandex said.
