DISASTER relief supplies have been delivered to four affected villages in the Kilenge ward of Kandrian-Gloucester, West New Britain.
Ward member John Nakamura said 700 bales of rice and other food items were delivered to the people by the provincial disaster officer.
He said a three-month-long dry spell late last year had affected their supplies of garden foods.
Available statistics showed a Kilenge population of 2,672 persons.
“We appreciate the relief supplies, which came at a time when the people needed assistance the most,” Nakamura said.
“Recent continuous rain is not helping matters.”
The rice and foodstuffs were distributed to individual families affected, he said.
The relief supplies were delivered to the people aboard MV St Michael, hired by the disaster office.
During the exercise, awareness sessions were conducted by the visiting officers on the importance of looking after communication facilities such as Digicel towers.
Nakamura said small craft owners were also urged to register their motorised dinghies, and lectured on the importance of safety at sea.
