KIRAKIRA claimed the Komi Gaudi Cup after defeating Korobosea Team One 13-12 in the junior division final of the Moresby South Motu-Koita netball tournament on Saturday.
The final saw a hard-fought encounter with Kirakira using their mid-court speed with centre Ellis Toua creating space for her side to score early via shooter Geua Sam.
Missed opportunities on goal saw Korobosea fight back with Andrea Cadigan and Molisen Givate adding points for their side with Kirakira grabbing a 6-5 lead at halftime.
Kirakira’s Atta Don stepped up in the second half, scoring five goals while Ginate scored another six to narrow the margin.
However, the pace of Kirakira saw them add an extra three goals to seal the game 13-12.
Meanwhile, Korobosea Team Two finished third after a convincing 18-9 win over Taurama.
“The tournament has really been a success at the junior level and a big thanks to MP Justin Tkatchenko for making it easy to host it,” tournament director Asi Mou said.
“I think we have a lot of talent at the junior level and the players here have the potential that we would like to mould,” Mou said.
