Partnership to fight gender-based violence

LAE Biscuit Company, through its franchises Lae Snax Tigers and Lae City, is partnering Femili Papua New Guinea to help address gender-based and sexual violence in the country.
Company group manager John Chow made the announcement recently after realising the greater need to utilise its franchises to be role models in addressing the issue.
He said the issue was becoming a “common disease” at all levels in the society.
“That is why in order to take on the challenges, there is the need to be properly versed with the issue,” Chow said.
He said the partnership with Femili PNG would mean informative sessions were carried out through the company’s franchises.
Femili PNG Lae operations director Denga Ilave said she was happy that the company was using its players — based on their popularity — to drive the message home.
The Tigers said gender-based violence and sexual abuse were growing issues in PNG despite efforts to address them.
City said the diversity of culture, customs and traditional livelihoods had impacted efforts to address the issues.
The company said using sporting teams and elites to join the campaign against gender-based and sexual violence was one way forward for the country.
