Koi warns teams pulling out of Ipatas Cup

Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup competition manager Sam Koi says teams pulling out of the tournament and forfeiting matches will not be accepted in future tournaments.
“We have a zero tolerance policy on that,” he said.
“Teams that pull out from the tournament after one loss without notifying the organisers and officials will not participate in the future Ipatas Cups.”
Koi told The National that it was frustrating for organisers to arrange points and slots for teams.
He said those clubs would be suspended from participation in the next season and a formal letter would be given to their sponsors.
Koi said that it was the management of the clubs and players that were failing not the sponsors.
“The sponsors have sponsored the clubs to take part in the competition, but I think the management and players need to be held accountable for not turning up for the games.
“They will need to explain to us (organisers) in a formal letter, and importantly to their sponsors why they decided to pull out of the tournament. Because the forfeited games are now an issue. The today’s break (Wednesday) was for us to straighten this issue out and focus on the knockouts,” he said. He said how the sponsors dealt with the clubs was up to them but the tournament organisers had made their decision to avoid it in the future.
Meanwhile, Koi also confirmed that the CCIC organisers had increased the chances of teams qualifying to the next round of the NCD and Central legs by increasing the finals berths to 16 and eight respectively.

  • We have all witnessed that this game has grown bigger and better over the years, developing and exposing rugby talents from far and wide of this country. For that we have to congratulate and say thank you to Sir Pita Ipatas, the Coca Cola amatil, past and present clubs executives/officials and their sponsors for bringing this competition this far. On that note, do we have plans in the near future, for the CCIC to meet the participating clubs travel and accommodation costs, similar to the previous “Club Championship” competition that is called CAMBRIDGE CUP.
Why I am saying this is because rugby league is now a very expensive games, and funds raised by the club wouldn’t be enough to cater for all the clubs expenses. At least the cost should be shared by the CCIC and the clubs.
