Koki Eels claim Moresby South Rugby League title

OBERT Muri scored a double to help Koki Eels beat Vadavada United 10-0 in the Moresby South Rugby League grand final at the Taurama Barracks Oval yesterday.
In an error-riddled match, both sides couldn’t complete most of their sets throughout the match due to poor handling.
Both teams had a fair share of possession but it was the class of Eels hooker Peter Gabriel, fullback Muri, and halves Michael Timothy and Kingsley John who caused problems for United.
The first points of the match were registered in the 39th minute when Eels’ Maxwell John scooped a grubber from Timothy to set up Muri who scored under the post for a 6-0 lead.
The second-half saw an improvement in the completion rates of both sides. However, there were a number of stoppages with both sides protesting referee decisions.
A 75-minute set move from Michael Timothy and Kingsley John led to Muri outpacing United’s Joel Torombe and Junior Amos to score on the left edge.
United forwards Timothy Yol and Joe Mika were solid but their backline didn’t have the polish to convert their chances into points.
Eels received K10,000 and United received K5,000, thanks to league patron and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko.
Chairman Brown Murema thanked Tkatchenko for supporting the league. He said the league had produced a lot of elite players in recent years.
