Kokoda wild life

Letters

I APPEAL to our Member of Parliament, governor, businesshouses and stakeholders in Northern to look into a very important project in the Kokoda district.
In 1997, we faced a bushfire disaster which destroyed forests, killed animals and damaged the environment.
This was the first such disaster in the province. The area most affected was the Kokoda local level government.
A second disaster struck on Nov 27, 2007, in the form of Cyclone Cuba, which caused widespread flooding in the province.
Kokoda Wild Life Park is a newly established project at the Kanandara area of the Kokoda LLG.
The main aim of the project is disaster recovery – the replanting of trees, breeding of animals and making people in the area aware of both natural and man-made disasters like alluvial mining and logging.
I thank the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority team for visiting the site and making recommendations for the project.
