Kokofas chase down Bombers to steal victory

THE Dockers, Concept Koboni and the Kokofas adjusted better to wet-weather football to down their opponents in the Esi Loan AFL Premiership at the Colts Oval over the weekend.
The wet conditions began in the last quarter of the match between the Gordon Kokofas and Gereka Bombers on Saturday.
The Bombers were headed for victory, leading 5.4 (34) to 4.3 (27) in the last quarter when it began to rain.
The game was in the balance with both teams struggling to maintain possession and the lead changing hands twice after Kokofas adjusted well to the wet conditions to score two goals and five behinds.
The Bombers tried desperately in the dying stages to regain the lead but found themselves in all sorts of troubles, fumbling possession time and again. The Kokofas ran out 44-40 winners.
The weather was still unkind on Sunday but reigning premiers Concept Koboni adapted well to the wet condition to flog the Gerehu Magpies 39-2.
In the main match on Sunday, the Dockers defeated the Sun City Cats 32-18.
In the women’s semifinals, Concept Koboni eliminated Gerehu Magpies 22-16 and the Dockers earned the first grand-final berth with a polished 22-9 win over the Kokofas.
The Kokofas face Koboni in this weekend’s preliminary final for the right to meet Dockers in the grand final next week.
