Kokofas rise to beat Cats

THE Bomana Cats suffered an agonising 39-point loss at the hands of a vastly improved Gordon Kokofas in their round 12 Esiloan Port Moresby AFL fixture at the Colts Oval on Sunday.
The youthful Cats looked a sorry sight from start to finish with staggering error rate to cop a tormenting 3.5 (23) to 9.8 (62) loss, their biggest of the season.
The Kokofas were well served by Bena Michael who played an outstanding captain’s knock with strong marking and kicking to score points.
Michael was assisted by Xavier Francis, Daniel Kaile and Jeffery Aihi in the point-scoring role while Silai Mark and Emmanuel Taviri stood out on the defence role.
The Cats trumph cards Kataha Seewee, Kelly Kaugla, John Susuve Jr and McKenzie Kamang were neutralised in midfield while full forward Jackson Nawi was rendered impotent.
Fullback Peter Lavong was one of the Cats best but his efforts were in vain.
The loss caused Cats to surrender third spot to Koboni, who turned Colts into a goal-kicking spree with a 22.17 (149) to 0.3 (3) thrashing of the Gereka Bombers.
In the other match, reigning premiers Lamana Dockers moved into top spot with a 13.11 (89) to 2.3 (15) win over the North Waigani Royals Tigers.
The Cats slid down to fifth spot while the Kokofas leap-frogged them into fourth spot.
Standings: Dockers 44, West 40, Koboni and Kokofas 28, Cats 24, Tigers 12, Bombers 8.
