AFTER a close loss to the University Tigers in Round 1 of the Esiloan AFL PNG Premiership,  the Gordon Kokofas came alive over the weekend beating Central Bombers 10.10 (70) to 3.1 (19) at the University of Papua New Guinea Oval.

With a boost from the side’s only two Papua New Guinea Mosquitoes Archie Mai and Sonny Yogomin at centre half, the Kokofas ran away with an easy 51-point win over the men from down the Magi Highway. Kokofas’ scored the first goal of the game in the first quarter when Caleb Ila snapped the first of his three for the match and that set the tone for the game as the Gordon men did enough to see off the Bombers.

The Kokofas took the wind out of Central’s sails in the opening quarter, kicking four goals and three minors, while the Central men could only manage a paltry goal for a 27-6 scoreline at the first break.

Kokofas captain Yongomin commanded his side for a good effort.

“Myself and Archie are the only two experienced players in the team, with most of guys beingtouch rugby players from Gordon but they performed exceptionally well,” Yongomin said.

He said the Kokofas were hoping to build on the performance and take on the competition’s leading sides like the Dockers and the Taurama Suns.
