BEN Williams scored a rare win in the Port Moresby Road Runners meet at Bishop Brothers, Hohola, on Saturday afternoon.

It was his first victory for 2015 and very memorable as he had to out-run leading lights Swans Pinampio and Jethro Meana in the process.

Williams made a big move at the half-way mark of the 7km course, which followed the loop along Ward’s Road, the Hubert Murray Highway and Waigani Drive before returning to base.

He won in 27 minutes and 49 seconds from Pinampio (27.51) and Meana (30.15).

Others in the hunt were Ens Nelson (30.41), Buda Awowari (31.55), James Gurumi (33.25), John Ulelu (34.04), John Greenland (34.09), Eddie Ryall (36.55), Peter Motanya (38.05), Paulus Opus (42.47) and Kelvin Bramley (43.10).

This Sunday’s race starts at the crack of dawn (6am) at the UPNG campus, Waigani, as the runners tackle Round 3 of the 2015 Endurance Challenge.

James Gurumi (190 points) holds a 15-point lead over Swans Pinampio (175), with others holding top five places being Milton Iakosi (165), Buda Awowari (158) and John Ulelu (150).

On Saturday, at 5pm, a warm-up meet will take place at the In-Service College, Ward’s Strip.
