KOKOPO mayor Isidore Bonga paid his last respects to Vunabalbal ward member late Allan Toky Tamai from the Kokopo-Vunamami urban local level government (KVULLG) at Bitapabeke ward last Sunday.
Tamai, who died on New Year’s Eve, was chairman of the Vunamami United church and in charge of seven congregations at the time of his passing.
Bonga apologised to the Tamai family for not attending the funeral service because he had been out of the province.
He said Tamai was a young aspiring leader in the community and had served as ward member for four years before his role as chairman of the Vunamami circuit which he had held for eight years until his death.
Bonga said Tamai had contributed to the development of KVULLG in terms of policies and was instrumental in his leadership of the Vunamami circuit. He said Vunabalbal ward and the Vunamami circuit would miss a strong leader. Bonga donated food items to the haus karai on behalf of the KVULLG and was accompanied by ward members of his executive LLG council, including deputy town mayor Francise Rainer and Malakuna ward member, Kokopo town ward member Paul Goi, Kabakaul ward member and Takubar ward member Simon Lukaot.
