Kombra wants lecturers at teachers’ colleges to at least have a Bachelor’s degree

THE Education Department requires lecturers at teachers colleges to have at the very least a Bachelor’s degree.
“Almost three quarters of the lecturers at teacher training institutions have the bachelor’s degrees,” Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra said.
“A few have Masters.”
“The Education division is encouraging every lecturer with a degree to pursue studies to obtain Masters or doctorate qualifications,” he said.
The department is also concerned about the quality of education and employment of teachers are regulated by the department in terms of quality.
The teacher institutions are the: l PNG Education Institute in Port Moresby,

  • Dauli Teachers College in Hela;
  • Holy Trinity Teachers College in Western Highlands;
  • Enga Teachers College in Enga;
  • Melanesian Nazarene Teachers College in Jiwaka;
  • Chimbu Teachers College in Chimbu;
  • Madang Teachers College in Madang;
  • Balob Teachers College in Morobe;
  • Gaulim Teachers College in East New Britain;
  • Sacred Heart Teachers College in NCD;
  • Rev Maru Teachers College in East Sepik;
  • St Peter Chanel College of Secondary Teacher Education in East New Britain;
  • St Benedict’s in East Sepik is the campus of the Divine Word University;
  • Kabaleo Teachers College campus of Divine Word University in ENB;
  • Sonoma Adventist College in ENB, campus of the Pacific Adventist University;
  • AOG Jubilee Institute of Higher Education in NCD, and the Asia Pacific Institute of Applied; and
  • Economic and Technical Studies in Port Moresby.
