THE need for political stability and sound economic decisions was the reason for joining the coalition Government of James Marape, East New Britain Governor Nakikus Konga says.
He said this during the last provincial assembly meeting in Kokopo for the year on Tuesday.
Konga said there were issues that his province needed addressed such as the move to autonomy, the lack of promised flood disaster relief funds and the stagnant economy.
He said Marape and his Government had the majority of support and needed to be trusted to take the country forward.
Konga said now that Marape and the Pangu Government had consolidated their numbers, they needed to be allowed to govern and run the country.
Meanwhile, Konga commended the ENB administration and public servants in the province for their efforts in addressing and containing the Covid-19.
He acknowledged them for ensuring delivery of Government services despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the political challenges.
Konga commended the people for being responsible and resilient during trying times.
He said the provincial government would ensure that the district and local level government system, including LLG presidents and ward members, would be supported to achieve their individual and collective development goals.
Konga said the people needed to have confidence in his administration and trust that the actions he took on the floor of Parliament were for their benefit.
“Despite the difficult times, it all comes back to us as leaders to lead our people to live a meaningful life.”
