MP: Country in good hands with PM, government

TEWAE-Siassi MP Dr Kobby Bomareo is calling on those MPs opposing the Government to allow it to see out the rest of the term until 2022.
He said if there was dissension among the ranks, these MPs had the opportunity to remove the sitting administration but could not.
“If they think the Pangu Government, under Prime Minister James Marape, is not running the country well, then they had that opportunity in the past,” he said.
“Why couldn’t they make the changes?”
Dr Kobby said one of the major legislative achievements by the Marape regime was passing of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) and Whistleblowers Act which had been on the table for some years.
He said Marape was pushing for resource owners and the State to own a larger share of projects (51 per cent).
“The changes in the Mining and Petroleum Act, headed by Minister Kerenga Kua, are some things which are important for the future of this nation,” he said.
Dr Kobby said within the space of 18 months, the Marape Government had brought significant legislative and policy changes aimed at redirecting and re-purposing the country and securing its future.
He said it was obvious that as the national elections draw closer, MPS wanted to have access to resources in order to get re-elected but the bigger priority needed to be the continuance of current policies and plans.
“If we got a second and third term, the country will be sailing towards a better future,” he said.
Dr Kobby pledged his support and loyalty to Pangu and assured his people of Tewae-Siassi that he would not switch allegiances for his convenience but would stand on principle to be with his party.
“I am a born and raised Pangu and I will not go anywhere,” he said.
“I got a prime minister who has the nation at heart.
“I don’t have a ministry, I have a reason.”
Dr Kobby said he was committed to his party and his people and would spend the rest of the
term focusing on his electorate after giving up his ministry.
