Kongo coffee hits Japanese markets

THE transporting of green bean coffee by air is rare and expensive, according to local company Kongo Coffee Ltd.
It airfreighted 900 kilogrammes consisting of 15 60kg bags of one of its premium green bean brands to Japan last month.
“It marks a significant and special event for Kongo Coffee Limited and the entire PNG coffee industry,” managing director Jerry Kapka said.
“This goes to demonstrate that our coffee is special and can attract good buyers from Japan and other parts of the world.”
Japan, importing over eight million bags annually, is the third largest importer of coffee after the United States and Germany.
The company thanked Air Niugini cargo staff, the Coffee Industry Corporation’s export division, Express Freight management, Naqia and other partners who helped made the shipment a success.
