UNDP recognises Oil Search’s work

Business

OIL Search’s efforts to contribute to the country’s sustainable development have been recognised and endorsed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
A case study on how the company is supporting female-led entrepreneurship in Papua New Guinea is featured in a joint publication by the UNDP, International Finance Corporation and the global oil and gas industry association for environmental and social issues, focused on mapping the oil and gas industry to the sustainable development goals (SDG).
Launched at the UNited Nations in New York recently, the report recognises the importance of the oil and gas industry to the global economy and the significant impact the industry can have on many national economies, including in developing countries.
It also acknowledges that the industry can be central to sustainable development, as oil and gas are key pillars in the local and global energy system and, as such, are drivers of economic and social development.
The report illustrates how the industry can take practical and concrete action on all of the SDGs by integrating them into core business operations and by collaborating with other stakeholders.
Oil Search was recognised as one company delivering on Goal 5 of the SDGs which focuses on gender equality and the end of all forms of discrimination and violence against women, among other targets.
The Moran-Kutubu Women umbrella business group called Mokut Women Business Group supply eggs to the PNG Mining Petroleum Hospitality and Catering Services Ltd, Oil Search’s contracted catering company. This is just one example of how Oil Search seeks to make PNG lives better by undertaking sustainable development activities that set the industry standard in PNG and globally.
