KOPEN National School of Excellence in Enga has a new principal.
He is Saju Francis from India.
Francis has 28 years’ experience in teaching of which 20 years he had spent as an educator in Papua New Guinea in different capacities.
Before coming to PNG, he had taught in various universities and related tertiary institutions in India for eight years.
The schools that he taught in PNG included Kiunga Secondary School for six years, KilaKila Secondary School for five years, Geheru Secondary School for five years, Tokarara Secondary School for one year and Gordon Secondary School for two years.
Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas welcomed Francis when thanking the National Education Board (NEB) for appointing such an experienced principal to lead the new school of excellence.
Sir Peter said his government would work closely with the Education Department to ensure that Kopen National School of Excellence achieved its ultimate goal of producing “top intellectuals” in the country.
“Kopen Secondary School had been nominated recently by
the NEB to take on the new challenge of introducing school of excellence curriculum over other provinces in the Highlands,” he said.
“It will remain as the centre of learning for the Western end including Enga, Hela and Southern Highlands but will also enroll students from across the country.”
