MINNOWS Kopex caused a major upset when they beat leaders Gazelle 4-3 in the Port Moresby men’s A grade softball competition on Sunday.
Gazelle still maintain the top spot but the defeat has shocked some of their fans who turned up to watch the game at the Bisini softball diamonds.
In the other match, AB Bears clawed their way back to beat reigning champions PNG Power 9-7 in a thrilling showdown.
Last year’s finalists, United Brothers have hit their form after their strong performance against Brown Eagles.
Brothers’ pitcher Nelson Kiap showed a class of brilliance to thrash Eagles 9-0. The win has them closing in on the top contenders.
It was an interesting encounter between Dolphins and Stringzers with both sides going neck-and-neck in the first three innings.
But it was Jerry Diala’s classic hit to bring home three of his teammates to wrap up the match 7-1, while in the other match Mantarays stung Defence 4-0.
After the weekend’s matches, Gazelle are on 11 points followed by PNG Power 10, AB Bears 10 and Brothers 9.
