TWO martial arts schools, Karate and Taekwondo, will for the first time host a provincial tournament in Popondetta, Northern early this month.
The event is to select a squad for the 5th PNG National Grassroots Games in East New Britain next year.
Tournament director Kevin Duna said the tournament would be held on Dec 8-9 at the Town Council Chamber.
The challenge is expected to attract more than eight local clubs from the three districts of Sohe, Ijivitari and Popondetta Urban.
Those who have confirmed their participation are Igora 1, Pongani and Kausada.
He is also expecting fighters from the Hohorita and Sorputa martial arts schools.
Duna is hoping tournament will help identify hidden talents from the local districts to win a spot in the team to prepare for the 2012 PNG Games in Kokopo, East New Britain.
He is disappointed that support from business houses was lacking but thanked John Warisons for the funds towards the event.
