INDO-Pacific Boxing Association cruiserweight champion John Korate dedicated his dramatic 9th round knock out of Pakistani challenger Ezatullah Kakar to his family.
The 34-year old said he was dedicating his belt and championship to his immediate family for their continuous support and encouragement throughout his preparation and indeed in the years that he had been involved in the sport.
“It’s my best decision to have my family here,” the father of four said.
“They motivate me every time I get into into the ring. I fight hard when my family is there.
“I thank them and this is for them.”
Korake won hearts and new fans with his performance against the rugged Ezatullah, himself a man coming from adversity being a refugee from his Taliban-ravaged part of Pakistan.
A textbook straight right hand dumped Kakar to the canvass at 2:29 of the 9th in what was a competitive bout at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex last Saturday.
Korake commended Kakar for his fearlessness.
“Kakar was very good though in his debut in pro boxing and he used his experience in mixed martial arts and kickboxing.”
Korake said his aim was to get more fights and work his way to a recognised regional title.
He also thanked his promoter for giving him the opportunity.
“I’m also thankful to PNG Professional Boxing Gym and patron Ben Micah for making this fight possible. Though the other two fighters from the Indonesia could not make it I think the eventthe event was successful.
“I now looking forward to the next year’s event and challenges,” Korake said.
“My aim was to win the title and now that I did that I want to fight other title holders from around the Pacific and the world.”
