PAPUA New Guinea National Party has endorsed 48 candidates to contest this year’s general election, party leader and Sinesine-Yongomugl MP Kerenga Kua says.
“Our aim is to form a Government that belongs to the people. We want Papua New Guineans to know that the Government belongs to them,” he said.
“After being elected, many MPs think they own the Government and they forget about the people.
“We want to change this mentality.
“We want the people to know that the Government belongs to them and they deserve equal and shared benefits.”
Speaking at his party convention on Monday, Kua said: “We want to form a Government that belongs to the people, not the elected leaders.”
Meanwhile, Registry of Political Parties and Candidates commissioner Emmanuel Pok said election candidate and those elected should remain loyal to their parties.
“We want to see political parties grow, and grow stronger,” he said.
“We want them to last long and contest in every election.
“You choose the party to be there, so you must be there till the end.
“When a party practises loyalty and stability, there is a high advantage for the party to run the Government with confidence.”
