A POLICE team has been deployed to Raicoast to conduct pre-general election law and order awareness, Madang commander acting superintendent Mazuc Rubiang says.
“They have also received reports that gangs are operating in different parts of Nayudo committing various crimes, including serious crime,” he said.
Rubiang said the team had organised for the gang to surrender their weapons and was awaiting for their response.
“The gangs include the Hetwara bandits who had been terrorising the public in Nankina Valley for some time now,” he said.
“We have also received feedback that Hetwara is now fighting with the Gwarawon Resistance Group.
“The group is going against what Hetwara is doing in the valley.”
Rubiang said Hetwara had attacked several families and the policemen deployed were trying their best to establish good relationship for the gang members to surrender their arms so that the election would be peaceful.
He said since there was ongoing fighting and killing, police were trying their best to ensure that the two groups surrendered to the police.
“We also want to find out why they are fighting against one another,” he said.
Rubiang said policemen were trying their best to communicate with community leaders to identify the gang members and to lay down their arms.
