Kua wants truth on economy

The Government has been making false promises under the Appropriation Act by lying to the nation in the national budget, says Sinasina-Yongomugl MP and PNG National Party leader Kerenga Kua.
He said this when supporting concerns raised by Samara-Murua MP Isi Henry Leonard, a member of his party, on how schools in his electorate were coping with the tuition fee-free policy (TFF) funding issue.
Kua said that in 2016, the government promised K10.5 million in district services improvement programme (DSIP) to MPs, of which only K1 million was paid.
“This year we were promised K10 million, but we are halfway through (2018) and haven’t even received half the DSIP,” he said.
“We are tracking in the same way, and now the school fee issue is being treated in the same way.”
Kua said this was a very serious concern throughout the country with high schools and secondary schools on the verge of closing, with some already closed.
“That arises from the bankrupt state of this country,” he said.
Kua said the academic year started in January and TFF has not yet been paid.
He said that keeping the country’s finances in a poor state was “gross misconduct” on the part of the Government.
“There must be some consequences for mismanaging the finances and Ombudsman Commission should look into this,” Kua said.
“The Government is leading the country by false promises and they should face the Ombudsman Commission.”
