RESIDENTS of Mt Hagen city can now enjoy taxi services after more than 10 years.
There were taxis in the city in the 1980s but the increasing number of PMV buses forced operators out of business.
However, the increasing population of the city has prompted an entrepreneur from Kaiwe village on the fringes of the city, to introduce a cab service again this year.
Andrias Kulda, from the Moge Nambuka clan, saw the need for taxi service and decided to use his own vehicle to provide the service.
He told The National in Mt Hagen that many people needed taxi  because with the increasing population, this would help many with their personal errands.
He said that many people did not want to travel on PMVs because they were too crowded, noisy and not safe at times.
Kulda’s taxi service even goes as far as Southern Highlands.
He said his aim was to expand the service and give commuters another safe option to travel to and from their destinations.
