Kuman: More teachers soon

 THERE will be increased teacher enrolment from next year, Minister for Education Nick Kuman says. 

Kuman announced that when highlighting the need for teacher training at a press conference in the National Capital District yesterday. 

“In order for the ratio of students and teachers to be one teacher per student, there has to be an increased in the enrolment of teachers,” he said.

He said the increased enrolment would increase the number of trained teachers in elementary, primary, high and secondary education by 2019.

He said on a visit to a school there were 84 students to a teacher.

“Are we going to achieve quality education by giving less emphasis on teachers giving attention to every child in a given classroom,” he asked. 

He said the nation needed to look at how best it should address the issue of teacher-student ratio and suggested increased enrolment. 

He said the education sector had gone through many reforms and with the introduction of technology it was vital students were given the best education. 

He said the Government was looking at introducing E-education.
