Kumbu aims for comeback

REIGNING women’s long jump champion Rebecca Kumbu is aiming retain top spot in this weekend’s PNG Air National Track and Field Championships in Kimbe, West New Britain.
After finishing third with a mark of 4.31m during last weekend’s Grand Prix series, she plans to better her record of 4.71m from last year.
“My results from last weekend Grand Prix were disappointing,” Kumbu said.
Balancing education and athletics has been a challenge for the 23-year-old.
“It is very difficult trying to balance my studies with athletics,” Kumbu said.
“It is not an easy task for someone like me.
“I sometimes miss training due to my studies, but I will focus all my efforts on training after my exams.”
Kumbu said the Coronavirus had disrupted her training, but the upcoming athlete insisted that she had worked hard enough for the championships.
