FIELD athlete Jackie Travetz says she is bidding for representatives duties as she prepares to compete in this weekend’s PNG Air National Track and Field Championships in Kimbe, West New Britain.
Travetz, who earlier this year accompanied Team Papua New Guinea as a coach for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, will be competing in the hammer throw and shot put on Sunday.
“This competition will tell me where I stand in terms of my performance, so I can see what I need to improve on,” she told The National yesterday.
“I’ll pick up from this competition and continue improving for upcoming events.
“I haven’t trained to my full potential, so I am not really looking at results this weekend.
“I just want to use this competition to see where I stand in terms of my performance.
“My personal best is 47.99m, so I am looking at throwing at least above 40m.”
Travetz said her experience at the Tokyo Paralympic Games had motivated her to push herself and compete well.
“Seeing the para-athletes push past their limits and give their best was something that really motivated and inspired me to never have limits,” she said.
“With that motivation from the Paralympic Games, it will help me as an athlete to continue representing my country and carry on coaching.”
