PAPUA New Guinea Kumul and Brisbane Tigers centre Daniel Russell is currently nursing a knee injury which he sustained in the Intrust Super Cup round 7 clash against Redcliff Dolphins last month.
The 25-year old told The National yesterday that he had dislocated his knee cap.
Russell said he had surgery on Wednesday and expected to be back playing by round 15.
“I’ve had a bad run of injuries this season and it’s disappointing,” said Russell, whose father Mark was born in Port Moresby and raised in Madang.
“Unfortunately I sustained the same injury I did in Melbourne earlier this year while I was with the Storm for the train-and-trial.
“We (Tigers) played against Hunters in round 6 and I got injured the next game. I was told by doctors that I needed a clean-out inthe knee but it could last until the end of the year.
“But fortunately it didn’t last so my focus now is get back to 100 per cent before the World Cup to be in the best shape possible if I get picked in the Kumuls squad.
“I had surgery yesterday and it’s just a clean-out and it’s only a month’s recovery.
“I should get about five Intrust Super Cup games before the end of season. So my focus with the Tigers is to finish the season well once I return from injury.”
The 193cm, 96kg outside back only played three games for the Tigers and has scored one try so far.
Russell has played two tests, three World Cup Nines matches and a Prime Minister’s 13 appearance for PNG.
