Kumul trio hopes to join Ipswich Jets

THREE members of the Papua New Guinea Kumuls are set to become Ipswich Jets.
The Jets are negotiating with livewire PNG hooker Benjamin John, prop Nickson Kolo and utility forward Charlie Wabo.
John, who was one of the Kumuls’ best performed players during their Four Nations campaign, is almost guaranteed to come to Ipswich, but Kolo and Wabo are still some way from being signed.
Jets coaches Ben and Shane Walker were assistant coaches for the Kumuls Four Nations’ campaign and were highly impressed with all three players.
Jets chief executive officer Brad Wolens said he hoped to sign the three players within the next two weeks.
“Benjamin John is highly likely to come here, but he hasn’t signed anything yet, but the other two we are still hopeful they will come here,” Wolens said.
“The Walker brothers said John was a very good reader of the game.
“There are not a lot players who can do that.
“He’s quick out of dummy half and will be good for us coming off the bench to give Fisher (Michael) a rest and something different for the team.
“We think Fisher can become an NRL player after one more season in the Queensland Cup so John will be able to give him a rest and learn a lot from him.
“We are still talking to the other guys but just letting them settle because the Four Nations just ended for them.”
Four of the Jets’ recruits arrive in town next week ahead of pre-season training which begins on Dec 22.
