MAJOR sponsor ExxonMobil Papua New Guinea has urged the national men’s rugby league team to have a positive influence on youths as ambassadors and role models of the sport.
ExxonMobil PNG executive production manager Keith Killian made the comment when the company announced the continuation of its sponsorship in Port Moresby yesterday.
“The PNG LNG Kumuls players have an important role to play as ambassadors and role models, and that is to have a positive influence on our youths.
“There are young men and women out there who look up to the national team.”
He said ExxonMobil and the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) shared a goal to support and develop rugby league in the country since 2013.
“We truly value our partnership with the PNGRFL as we are both committed to developing shared values of leadership, teamwork, respect, personal integrity and excellence.
“Just a few months ago, the Kumuls beat the (visiting) Great Britain Lions (28-10) – what a game.
“The company is proud to see the Kumuls succeed over the years and we look forward to a safe and successful 2020.
“With these continued partnership we look forward to more of these excitements as we prepare for next year’s Rugby League World Cup in England.”
PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka commended ExxonMobil for continuing its sponsorship despite the uncertainties caused by Covid-19.
“ExxonMobil has been a long-time supporter of rugby league in PNG and the company has been an integral part of the sport’s resurgence and successes over the years,” he said.
“The Kumuls have become successful because of the company’s support over the years and for that, we are grateful. On behalf of all our stakeholders, partners, and rugby league families throughout PNG and abroad, we extend our sincere gratitude for the support and contributions to the Kumuls and rugby league.”
