Marum keeping eye on players ahead of World Cup

NATIONAL coach Michael Marum says his primary focus this year will be to monitor players in the country’s premier rugby league competition ahead of next year’s World Cup in England.
He warned that despite the season cancellation of the Queensland Intrust Super Cup (ISC), in which the SP Hunters compete, representative players should earn their spots for the Papua New Guinea LNG Kumuls’ end-of-year tests.
“We understand that the Digicel Cup is not at the level as the ISC,” Marum said.
“But there will be goals that the players will have to achieve.
“I will be doing videos, assisting and closely monitor them with other coaching staff.
“We also want to make sure they are given a fair chance in order to achieve the targets.
“The World Cup is still long way away.
“Our main focus now is the Digicel Cup and we want to see how they (Kumuls players) play.”
PNG Rugby Football League chairman Sandis Tsaka: “Apart from Australia’s National Rugby League, the Digicel Cup will be the world’s only rugby league competition to run when it kicks off next month.
“The current Kumuls, who will be playing in the Digicel Cup, have to earn selection.”
