Oceania Kung Fu Wushu president Walt Missingham visited Port Moresby to facilitate the formation of the newest Oceania Kung Fu Wushu Federation member —  Kung Fu Wushu Papua New Guinea (KWPNG).
Missingham said PNG joined Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia in what was the expanding presence of Kung Fu Wushu in the region.
Missingham was accompanied by Geoff Hui, who has been appointed president of KWPNG.
The two men also met with a leading Wushu Kung Fu club in the country, the PNG Shaolin Wushu Kung Fu School and discussed their plans on expanding the style as a competitive sport in the country and the Oceania region.
Work is underway in pushing Kung Fu Wushu to be a Pacific Games sport and the establishment of its national body in PNG is another step in that direction.
“This is an important step as we move to achieve the recognition of Kung Fu Wushu as a Pacific Games sport,” Missingham said.
“Geoff (Hui) and his team have my complete confidence in their capacity to advance Kung Fu Wushu participation in Papua New Guinea.”
Head of the PNG Shaolin Wushu Kung Fu School Steven Ngandang welcomed the establishment of the new martial art sporting body saying that it provided new opportunities for martial artists and sports people.
