PAPUA New Guinea Women’s Rugby Football League will be staging their first ever tournament, the PNG Kurumiles.
Derived from the Cimbu dialect for the long-tailed bird of paradise, the national women’s team will be called the Kurumiles beginning with a curtain raiser for the Prime Minister’s XIII leading to the year’s June 27 – July 18 2013 World Cup.
“Rabaul WRFL will take on a select side from the rest of PNG to showcase the women’s strength in rugby league,” president Wendy Kohun said.
“Early selections were made on two criteria’s, firstly from ongoing current competitions in Banz, Port Moresby and Rabaul, and secondly other affiliates of the PNGWRFL.
Other centres have been invited but the lack of financial support may be their biggest hurdle.”
Kohun appealed for support in any form to enable the women’s challenge,  to go ahead and be successful, and for those willing to contact her on 73057368.
