THE World Professional Boxing Federation (WPBF) has sanctioned and approved two vacant title fights of international bantam weight and Asia Pacific light welter weight on Nov 18 in Port Moresby.
The PNG Professional Boxing Federation as the custodian and promoter of pro fights have been awarded to host the international event after paying the sanctioned and Title fees of K6900 to WPBF.
Australia’s world recognised international boxing referee Brad Vocale is confirmed to facilitate both fights – his third time to officiate in Port Moresby.
The fight will feature PNG’s Douglas Walo against Filipino’s Jonel Gandapan in the WPBF Asia Pacific light welter weight title.
In the main bout, PNG’s Manus raw breed Jason Hayeu takes on Filipino Dado Cabintoy in the WPBF bantamweight title.
Since the announcement, Hayeu and Walo have been preparing well for the fight, the former is training in Manus under coach Tinge Metta and the latter with former pro Pacific champion Steven Metta in Socay Boxing Club in Port Moresby.
For the local duo, it’s not about them but for the pride of PNG and all the political, corporate and individual support in cash or kind will ensure and boost their confidence to win and put the country on international map.
PNGPBF is inviting Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko and NCD Governor Powes Parkop to officially declare the international meet open.
Two major sponsors have came to the PNG Professional Boxing Federation’s rescue with sponsorship for the event.
