SIX teams from the Kutubu local-level government area in Southern Highlands were given jerseys by deputy provincial administrator Fiebik Kilip.
He bought the jerseys and presented them to the teams as a Christmas gift at Mano village in Upper Foe over the weekend.
The teams are competing in a Christmas rugby league tournament.
As a former rugby league player, Kilip told The National that it was his passion to support youths who saw rugby league as a career.
He said he was happy to help the teams as the sponsor of Pimaga Rugby League. Kilip said youths now outnumbered elderly people and it was up to leaders to manage the growing population through such initiative.
“I will continue to support youths who will compete in the Southern Highlands Nines tournament which is scheduled for early next month,” he said.
“A Kutubu select side is ready for the nines tournament.
“I am looking forward to the tournament with a select side from Pimaga Rugby League.”
Meanwhile, league president David Igimabo said it was the youths’ initiative to use sports during the festive season to keep themselves busy and refrain for bad activities.
