THE national women’s football train-on squad members in the Northern Conference held a camp in Lae last weekend before a final selection is made by head coach Nicola Demaine.
Papua New Guinea Football Association general secretary Pius Letenge told The National yesterday that players from Madang, Ramu and Goroka travelled to the Morobe capital for the camp.
“Association technical officer Margaret Aka went to Lae to trim the squad,” he said.
“We decided not to include the Wewak-based players in the Northern Conference, so they will join the Southern Conference players in their camp.
“Given that it’s the festive season and flights have been busy, we decided to let the players from the four centres go into camp without the players from Wewak.”
Letenge said the Southern Conference players were yet to go into camp.
“We were planning to do that over the weekend, but that didn’t work out, so we’re looking at next week or in the New Year,” he said.
“The camp for the Southern Conference will include players from Port Moresby, Wewak and Kimbe.
“We’re also in the process of appointing a local assistant coach to work with Demaine.”
