Labour ward horrors

Letters

PLEASE, we need help here at the Port Moresby General Hospital’s labour ward.
Our women desperately need basic necessities in order for them to deliver in a safe and healthy environment.
There are not enough rooms and beds.
Women are delivering their babies on the floor without care and protection, and eating a kaukau for lunch.
Where are the authorities?
They should visit and see for themselves.
The nurses and doctors who work in that particular section are so stressed and need to be compensated accordingly.
While this is happening, we see the Government spending like crazy on expensive toys that will not benefit the majority of us.
Why? Why?
As a father I have listened to testimonies regarding the difficulties my wife and other women have faced and know that we have no hope at all.
We have read in newspapers that there are a lot of money in Apec, so I as a normal Papua New Guinean am asking the Government and the Apec management to please help Port Moresby General Hospital improve conditions at the labour ward by buying beds, mattresses and other necessities to keep our women healthy and at least give them some hope.
Currently, there’s no hope, no one to run to for help.
Please help!
